The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) had in October, announced it’s redesigning new 200, 500 and 1000 denomination of naira. A subsequent ban on use of the old currency notes ensued in February. Day to day cash use became hindered due to scarcity of new notes. Commuters had a hard time getting around as the majority of mass transits only accept cash. Bank networks became crappy and e-tranfers of cash took from hours to days to complete, this caused a distrust in online transactions. People became frustrated by with the situation of things and little protests started breaking out in parts of the country.
