South Africa’s closeness to the mid-latitudes makes it prone to severe hailstorms. Hailstorms such as this usually last about 15 minutes occur in the middle to late afternoon. When hailstorms like this occur, ice balls more than 50mm in diameter can fall from the sky. This extreme weather condition poses a threat to both human, animals , crops and properties.
